"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"

Jesus cries out those famous words in Psalm 22 from the cross. The words ring so painfully in our soul to hear the One who loved us enough to go to the cross, utter such a frightening cry. Even the "rich man" in torments cried out across the chasm and Abraham responded. King David feared abandonment by God when he wrote Psalm 51 after Nathan the Prophet confronted him regarding his sin with Bathsheba and the subsequent killing of Uriah.  "Have mercy upon me, O God...Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me."  That which King David feared and which God reserves for the final judgment, Christ endured upon the cross for our sins and for our salvation. May we be ever grateful for His everlasting mercy that does not change.
